Protecting Your Car during Hail Season
Large hail will wreak havoc on your vehicle if you are not careful. Thinking ahead is the key to saving your car from turning into a dent party. Here are the steps to take:
- Move your vehicle inside: If you have a garage and a hail storm is forecasted, make sure to move your car inside. If not, try to find a covered parking lot or other protected area which will keep your car safe from hail damage.
- Cover your vehicle with blankets: If you don’t have access to a covered area to put your vehicle, get some heavy blankets and cover it up. Pay close attention to the hood, roof and trunk, which are the most susceptible to hail damage.
- If on the road, find cover: If you are driving, seek cover and bring your car to a stop. Look for an overpass or a covered gas station which you can wait under until the storm passes. If no cover is available, pull off the road and bring your vehicle to a stop at an angle in which the hail hits the windshield and not the less sturdy side windows. Mainly, make sure to stop driving when you encounter hail. A moving vehicle will sustain far more hail damage than a parked one.
When the storm passes, take stock of your vehicle and check for any hail damage or broken glass/headlights. If there is any damage, check your insurance policy—many will cover hail-related damage. Then, bring your vehicle down to Accurate Auto Body and we will get it looking good as new! Learn more about our Paintless Dent Repair Services for your Car.
