What to do following an accident - Accurate Auto Body

Car crashes can cause a lot of stress and pain in your life. It’s important that your health is your top priority following a car crash. If you follow our Accurate Auto Body post-crash checklist, it can help prepare you for any possible health complications.

Immediately Following an Accident

Depending on the severity of the car crash and how the cars collided, your immediate pain levels might vary. If you feel pain right off the bat, be sure to inform the medic and possibly even go to the hospital. Even if you feel surprisingly well and there are no broken bones, you may still have health issues. It’s always good to check to see if you have any of the following:

  • Neck pain/lack of mobility
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Numbness/tingling

Any of these symptoms could mean severe whiplash or a concussion; don’t ignore them.

The Next Day

Even if you went to bed physically feeling fine, there’s a very high chance you’re going to wake up in pain. The shock of a car accident can delay your symptoms, especially if they are internal. If you wake up with neck pain, back pain or a headache, consult your doctor immediately. Continue to monitor any other changes in your physical and emotional wellness as well.

Continue to Monitor your Health

Once your initial pain goes away, or any visible injuries, don’t just assume you’re healthy. Many health problems from car accidents don’t develop until further down the road. Internal injuries are much more difficult to monitor and you may not even realize they are a result of an accident. For up to a year or two following your crash, be on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary that could be a severe health problem.
